Hi, welcome to Mary Smith’s Place. I hope you will enjoy visiting.
Who is Mary Smith?
I’m a published author of fiction: No More Mulberries, a novel set in Afghanistan and a collection of short stories, Donkey Boy & Other Stories. My non-fiction work includes a memoir of my time working in Afghanistan, Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni and a couple of local history books: Dumfries Through Time and Castle Douglas Through Time.
Thousands Pass Here Every Day is my full length poetry collection. I hope, in time, there will be another collection. Freelance journalism helps to pay the bills. My output would be much greater if it were not for my addiction to spider solitaire.
I already have a blog called My Dad is a Goldfish. It’s all about my dad and me and his dementia. You can find it here: https://marysmith57.wordpress.com
I wanted a separate place to post things I didn’t feel I could include on a blog focussing almost exclusively on dementia. I often read posts on other people’s blogs and want to share them – now I can. I often see writing challenges and think about having a go but feel it wouldn’t fit on a blog about dementia – now I can.
I can use this blog to reflect my other interests be that walking in the countryside around my home in Dumfries & Galloway, poetry, articles, and anything else which takes my fancy.
I can interview other authors, share news about their books (though I am not going to be a reviewer – heaven knows I find it difficult enough to put reviews on Amazon), have guest bloggers. Of course, all of those things will be of any value to others once people start to follow MarySmith’s Place.
I want people to feel they are dropping in to visit a friend, relax, see what’s new, meet other people, have a chat, meet the cat.
