Thank you for these photos. I am listening to Pastoral Song by James Rebanks and he describes the belted cows as a heritage breed in the Lakes district.
I hadn’t heard of this but looked it up – it’s published in the UK as English Pastoral – and it sounds fascinating. I’m not sure he’s correct about the Belted Galloway being a Lake district breed but it is certainly a heritage breed, as is the Galloway, which doesn’t have a belt. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
My guy and I are watching the video on an early rainy Monday morning here in New England and laughing. The young ‘un reminds us of our grandkids. Oh, the energy and love of life in a green field! ❤
I am in love with that mini-cow racing around the pasture like an excited puppy! And what a facey. ❤

That one calf in the video seemed intent on gamboling–but the rest of the herd were having none of it!

He seemed so completely happy and full of energy. The other calf had just had a big drink of milk from mum was still too full to gambol.

I was wondering why the other calf chose to be so sedate!
