I visited some underground Roman ruins in Barcelona and the laundry area looked much like this. Not sure if they did ironing back then though. It is admirable.
But viewing these photos makes me feel so spoiled. I don’t usually complain when I do our laundry, but perhaps grumble a tiny bit. Never again. Amazing photos, Mary.
It’s not quite the same as shoving clothes in a machine and pushing a button! And these people are doing laundry for thousands of customers a day. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
It’s a wonder their clothes last longer than a month, with that treatment. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Surprisingly, they did, Pete. What I could never understand was how they got the right clothes back to the right customers.

I didn’t even think of that! 🙂

Oh my! I believe that is how the Romans did the laundry.

I didn’t know that, Darlene. I do know everything came back the next day spotlessly clean and beautifully ironed and I so admire how they do it.

These photos are amazing, Mary. The work looks noisy and chaotic and more alive than the corner laundromat.

Thanks, Rob. I think it’s actually very organised chaos!

It has to be because of the complexity of tracking the clothes.
